Howdy all, and thanks for checking out my new blog!

For those who don’t know me, hello, my name is Robert, but while you’re here, you can call me the Ninja Jedi. Want to get to know me a bit better? Check out the about page, that’s what it’s there for.

The Ninja Jedi is guaranteed to be at least 75% more entertaining and more than 50% less depressing than my old blog. What’s on tap here will be a variety show of my art, stories, project updates, and my general musings on any number of other miscellaneous topics. I’ll be aiming for a roughly weekly posting schedule, but I’ll probably be straying from that, either posting more or less frequently depending on what’s going on with my life in the real world.

To start with today, I’ll be sharing my list of projects, and their current status. My active projects will also be listed on the “Projects’ Status” page linked on the top menu, and when I note an update here in a post, I’ll update that page as well.

Front Burner

These are my currently active, regularly worked on projects. Outside of my real world obligations, these are my top priorities for completion

Photography - Slow and steady wins the race. Every few weeks I take a hike through a metropark or walking through alleys downtown with my camera. I’d consider myself more an avid hobbyist than an aspiring professional, though I’m working on researching the “art world” and looking into exhibiting some work in a gallery or show.

Writing - I’ve got about a half dozen books and more than double that of short stories in my head, and I’ve been slowly progressing on getting them squeezed out.

Books in progress

  • Ballistic: A Modern Tactical Roleplaying Game - Combining my love of action films and pencil and paper RPGs, this is a new game system with streamlined combat and character development for faster play and less needlessly confusing rules. Current status: ~30%
  • The Kinder Way – An exploration and indictment of religion and philosophy, presented by way of creating a new logically and morally engineered quazi-religion. Current Status: ~50%
  • Arcadia – My commentary on human nature, and what it should be. Kind of like a sci-fi Gulliver’s Travels. Current Status: ~10%
  • Empire Bloodlines: A prequel to my comic Department 13, explaining what happened between now and the comic: Current Status:  ~20%

Home improvements – You get what you pay for and I paid $29,900 for my house. There’s a lot of projects in here, more than I need to mention here. This is all being done piecemeal when I can, but this item is fairly high on my priority list.

Back Burner

These are all projects I’ve worked on steadily in the past, but I’ve pushed aside for the moment to work on other things. I do intend to get back to these and eventually, but I’ve got other things ahead of them.

Graphic Design – I’ve been picking up freelance work when I can, sometimes from sites like 99designs, sometimes from direct inquiries. It’d be nice to get some more work, but it’s not at the top of my priority list.

T-Shirt Design - I’ve submitted to threadless and other sites with no results, and I’ve had some ideas for my own online t-shirt store, but nothing ever came of it. It’s a good idea I’d like to revisit, but I’m not sure what I’d be doing with it.

Comics - Yes, I still consider myself a comic author, despite all evidence to the contrary. I plan to come back to these at some point when I have the time.

Comics in progress

  • Heroes Inc. – By the virtue of being my longest continuously active project, it’s still my most successful work. YES, HEROES FANS, I WILL BE BACK. There’s a complete epic story I want to tell, and the 480-something pages currently posted is roughly only 1/3 of that. Right now it’s on indefinite hiatus while I work on other projects, but I WILL FINSIH HEROES INC.
  • Department 13 - I’ve been working on this on and off since high school, and made a serious attempt last year to get it started properly. Unfortunately, I underestimated how time consuming doing a nearly fully-CG comic would be, and had a hard time keeping up with it. This too will return eventually. I have a 26-episode series in my head for this, and it hasn’t even gotten through the cold open of episode 1, so I’ll definitely be back.
  • Degrees of Freedom - I made this for a contest a few years ago, but I really liked the premise, and think it would make a good series if I expanded on it. No rush, but I do want to tackle this again someday.

The Motorcylcle - I traded my old beat up truck for an old beat up ’84 Yamaha Virago 700 last year, with the intent of restoring and riding it. Finances being what they are, I wasn’t able to do so this year, but I’m still hopeful that I’ll be riding it by next summer.

Fallen behind the stove

These are projects I’m basically giving up on. Nothing ever came of them and I don’t have much interest in trying again.

D&D Modules – Had an idea to make original content under the SRD rules and sell them as ebooks, but working within those constrains was more difficult than I planned. Some of these ideas could find their way into modules for Ballistic, but I’d have to make a sword-and-sorcery expansion first (which is a ways off since the core book isn’t even complete)

Stock Photography – I tried my hand at selling some of my photos on microstock sites like shutterstock, but apparently my camera is too low resolution, and they already have enough photos of wood and concrete textures, so that really went nowhere.

YouTube Videos - I’m much less entertaining in moving pictures than in text. The only way I’ll be going viral is if I forget to get my flu shot this year.

At any rate, Looks like I’ve got plenty to keep me busy. Thanks for reading, and I hope all of you stick around to see me succeed or fail! I’ll do my best to make it spectacular either way.
